Glenn C. Altschuler, the Thomas and Dorothy Litwin Professor of American Studies, received his Ph.D. in American history from Cornell in 1976 and joined the university as an administrator and teacher in 1981. He is the Vice President for University Relations and, since 1991, has served as dean of the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions while continuing to teach and do research. His year-long course in American popular culture is a favorite among Cornell students. Altschuler has been an animating force in the rapidly growing program in American studies and has been a strong advocate on campus for high-quality undergraduate teaching and research.

W. Kent Fuchs
Kent Fuchs was appointed Cornell's provost on January 1, 2009, after serving for six years as the Joseph Silbert Dean of Engineering at Cornell. At Purdue University from 1996 to 2002, he was the head of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Michael J. and Catherine R. Birck Distinguished Professor. Prior to that appointment, he was a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Coordinated Science Laboratory, University of Illinois.
The provost's research interests focus on computer engineering--particularly, dependable computing and failure diagnosis. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He has over 185 publications and has served as the thesis advisor for twenty-two Ph.D. students and thirty-five M.S. students. He has received awards for both teaching and research.
Fuchs received his B.S.E. degree from Duke University, M.Div. degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.
